If everything had gone as planned by Microsoft, today, July 18, the merger with Activision Blizzard would have been announced with great fanfare. We tell you below.

Microsoft and Activision will have to enter into a new purchase agreement
According to a Reuters report, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard are negotiating a new purchase agreement since the acquisition as originally agreed will not be able to close by its July 18 deadline. The foregoing does not mean that the acquisition agreement is broken, but that starting tomorrow the 2 companies have the right to withdraw from the operation, although we know that this will not happen.
Microsoft is in talks about an extension of its acquisition contract with video game maker Activision Blizzard, which is set to expire on Tuesday, so the parties can overcome the remaining regulatory hurdles to their $69 billion deal https://t.co/FG0NJVRlwV pic.twitter.com/KxwZlqO5VH— Reuters (@Reuters) July 18, 2023
Taking into account the details of the purchase in its original form, Microsoft will have to pay $3 billion to Activision Blizzard and the next step will be to negotiate a new purchase agreement taking into account the financial aspect, the price of the shares and the necessary adjustments to extend the deadline that allows you to close the purchase without any inconvenience. The companies involved in the biggest merger in the video game industry were not expected to make decisions on the fly and the last obstacle to overcome is the Competition and Markets Authority of the United Kingdom (CMA) who requested an extension of the period to present a conclusion going from July 18 to August 29 at the latest. Currently, Microsoft, Activision Blizzard and the CMA are negotiating remedies that meet regulatory requirements in order to approve the acquisition and one of them could be the sale of the rights to Microsoft’s cloud gaming business to a third party. In this way, the expectation is that Microsoft and Activision present their new purchase agreement in the coming days, after the matter with the CMA is resolved and then the merger will become a reality at some point from today until before August 29.
