Barbie is already in theaters, and we have already been able to see the film directed by Greta Gerwing and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling

Barbie is finally in theaters, a movie with the famous Mattel toy line with the same name co-written and directed by Greta Gerwig, director of films like Little Women or Lady Bird. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, along with America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell. The film is also starring Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlin, Ritu Arya, Aya Arya And Helen Miren as the narrator, so don’t expect to see the actress.

The history

In Barbie, Margot Robbie’s Barbie, she plays the stereotypical Barbie, in a dream world where women rule, have careers, Nobel prizes, and party every night, while the Kens are just a complement, they don’t even have a dream house like Barbie. However, despite living in a perfect world, Barbie begins to ask existential questions about death, which causes a chain reaction that causes her entire perfect world to collapse. To fix things, she will have to travel to the real world, one of hers, accompanied by her inseparable Ken from Ryan Gosling. However, she will soon discover that the real world has nothing to do with the world of Barbie Land.

Feminist discourse against patriarchy

Barbie trailer with Margot Robbie and Ryan GoslingGreta Gerwig shows two completely extreme realities, in an acid and subversive criticism of the extremes of both extreme feminism and patriarchy (I want to think that it is a criticism and not her vision of the most extreme feminism). Since, as I say, it shows a vision of the two worlds that reach the crudest extremism. On the one hand, Barbie Land, a place where all the important decisions are made by women, and men are just a complement, or vase men, with good abs and handsome men, we go like in the toy line. On the other, the “real” world, a world dominated by machirulos, guys who have all the stereotypes, throw nasty compliments, are slimy as soon as they see a beautiful woman, and even put their hands on the protagonist. And it is a world ruled by men, in which the Mattel company, which makes Barbie, is run only by men, without a single woman on the board and represented by complete idiots, which explains the choice of Will Ferrell as CEO of the company. In fact, all the men are represented as such. The characters are mere caricatures, but full of layers, Margot Robbie is incredible and shows many nuances from the image of a perfect doll, to a person who as soon as she comes out of her glass bubble runs into reality, and reality has good things, but also bad things, and those when you have lived without problems throughout your existence is difficult to get over. Like Gosling’s Ken, a Ken canceled and ignored by Barbie. I also liked America Ferrera’s interpretation. As for the winks, Barbie collectors will see many well-known accessories, vehicles, and sets of the brand. In fact, the movie has skyrocketed sales of the popular doll.

Ryan Gosling as Ken in the Barbie movie

Ryan Gosling as Ken in the Barbie movieThe movie reminded me a lot of the Truman Show. both visually and cinematically speaking, just like the journey of its protagonist. The photography is 10. Like the themes and musical numbers that can be enjoyed. The humor is very silly, typical of the films in which Ferrell and Kate McKinnon usually participate. Like the character of Michael Cera, it seems that this actor has been stuck in roles of typical loser without relevance. As for cameos, I know Dua Lipa’s participation in that, a cameo in a couple of scenes, and the odd one that you might not have expected. However, as a man I have not felt identified at all and if you don’t get into the joke and the parody you can become outraged by the extremely feminist message that the film contains. In my opinion it is a film that you can like a lot or you can hate it to death.
