Visionary director Zack Snyder reveals the truth about why his Star Wars project didn’t come to fruition.
It must be recognized that Zack Snyder is a filmmaker with a unique style that permeates his films. There will be people who will like it and others who will hate it, but at least you take a chance. That’s why he submitted a project for Star Wars that was rejected. But… When someone misses an opportunity but believes in themselves, they may have another chance to prove what they wanted. This is the case of Zack Snyder who couldn’t make his Star Wars movie but everything he prepared has become Netflix’s Rebel Moon. History that he has already filmed and that may be one of the great premieres of the year on the platform.
Rebel Moon by Zack Snyder
Now, we know why it was rejected by LucasFilm.
You have to go back a bit in time, after Disney’s big purchase of LucasFilm in 2012. At the time, Star Wars was a blank canvas and all the material that existed outside of the main movies as series, comics or books were considered “legends.” So Zack Snyder came up with a new project and he himself recounts what happened in an interview with Empire. “They were Seven Samurai in space. And a Star Wars movie was my original concept for it. The sale had just happened. There was that window where, you know, who knows what’s possible? I was like: I don’t want any of your characters. I don’t want to do anything with any known characters, I just want to do my thing on my own. And I originally said: It should be R-rated! That was almost a failure. I knew it was a great question, to be honest. But the more I got into it, the more I realized that it was probably never going to be what I wanted.” Someone imagines that after the merger and a few years after the last installment in 2005 they release a movie with totally new characters and with an R rating, which means that minors in the United States cannot enter the cinema. Normal that Zack Snyder was rejected.
