The director of Chapter 4 of the saga, Chad Stahelski, has campaigned for a category that would be something like “Best Stunts” at the Academy Awards. Thus, experts in action and complex sequences of this type of sagas could shine with their own light at the great awards of the film industry. Chad Stahelski began his career as Brandon Lee’s action double in El Cuervo. He did it before he became Keanu Reeves’ double in The Matrix. Subsequently, he directed the actor in the John Wick saga, which has become one of the most critically successful action movie franchises of all time. With the recent proliferation of incredible death-defying stunts in franchises like Mission Impossible and Tyler Rake, many hope the Academy will create a category for the best stunts at the Oscars. In fact, Chad Stahelski himself hopes the same.
“We’ve made real progress to make it happen,” he said.
Lionsgate“Over the last couple of months, we’ve been meeting with members of the Academy and we’ve had these conversations about the Oscars. And, to be honest, they have been nothing but incredibly positive and instructive,” said the director of John Wick: Chapter 4 in an interview with Comic Book Movie. “I think that, for the first time, we have made real progress to make this happen,” acknowledged the director of John Wick. “It’s something that can happen as soon as the next Oscars. Or, at least, at the latest, in the next three or four years. I think there are a lot of pieces of work in play. Okay, I’m the Academy, you came to me and told me that we should have stunts at the awards. And I say that I agree with you. Great. How do we do it? How do we select the best stunt? Who do we give it to? Quick, what are your answers?”
