After years of waiting, Warner Bros has revealed the first trailer for Blue Beetle, a film based on the DC Comics characterWith the change of plans at Warner Bros about the DCU at the hands of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Blue Beetle will become the latest origin story of this current era of the superpowered franchise, and there is still no word on how it will fit into them, so we will have to wait for its release and the results that the film obtains. The film has been described as “super entertaining” outside of test screenings, as the story of Jaime Reyes and the alien Scarab suit hits the big screen for the first time. While previews of the film have been received by audiences through leaks, so far there have been a significant lack of officially released images. However, everything has changed with the release of the trailer that you will see below:

First images of Blue Beetle

The trailer offers a look at Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes as he becomes the avatar of an alien bioweapon known as a Scarab. Although looking at the images it is difficult not to stop thinking about the MCU movies, both by design and by the images of the character in action. In another part of the trailer, fans have been able to see the first clues about the villain played by Susan Sarandon for the movie. As well as Jaime, along with his family flying in the Blue Beetle Bug, a beetle-shaped aircraft, with the soundtrack of “Just Wanna Rock” by Lil Uzi Vert. Jaime Reyes, recently graduated, returns home full of aspirations to his future, but discovers that his home is not exactly as he left it. In his quest to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the beetle chooses Jaime as its symbiotic host, he is given an incredible armor with extraordinary and unpredictable powers that will forever change his destiny and transform him into the superhero BLUE BEETLE.

Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”) stars Adriana Barraza (“Rambo: The Last Mission”, “Thor”), Damían Alcázar (“Narcos”, “Narcos: Mexico”), Elpidia Carrillo (“Mayans MC, the films of “Predator”), Bruna Marquezine (“Maldives,” “Hail the King”), Raoul Max Trujillo (the “Sicario” films, “Mayans MC”), with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Monarch,” “Pena of Death”), and George Lopez (the “Rio” and “The Smurfs” franchises). The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories,” “The Witches Return 2”) and Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows”). Ángel Manuel Soto (“Los reyes de Baltimore”, “La granja”) directs from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Miss Bala”), based on DC characters. Production is being produced by John Rickard and Zev Foreman, with Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman and Garrett Grant serving as executive producers. The behind-the-scenes creative team includes cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski (“Midsommar,” “Hereditary”), production designer John Billington (“Bad Boys Forever”), editor Craig Alpert (“Deadpool 2,” “The Lost City”), Oscar-nominated costume designer Mayes C. Rubeo (“Jojo Rabbit,” the films of “Thor”), visual effects supervisor Kelvin McIlwain (“Suicide Squad,” “Aquaman”) and composer Bobby Krlic (“Midsommar,” the “Snowpiercer” series). Blue Beetle, a Warner Bros. Pictures and produced by Safran Company, it will be released in theaters around the world from August 2023 and in Spain on August 18, 2023.
