We recently reported that the third season of the anime Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen), titled as Kaguya-sama: Love is War – Ultra Romanticwas on track to become the highest-rated series in the entire history of the platform MyAnimeListsurpassing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. In the end this happened that same day, but the most impressive thing is that what most already thought would happen has not happened.
And what did everyone think would happen? Well, Fullmetal Alchemist fans began a review-bombing of Kaguya-sama: Love is War, awarding one-point ratings to drop it in the ranking. However, it is apparently quite clear that the second series has a much larger audience, so although they already add up to almost 3,000 “1 Point” ratings, they only equate to less than 2% of the total score. A) Yes, Kaguya-sama: Love is War – Ultra Romantic is maintaining the first position on the list with a score of 9.17 points, that is, three hundredths above Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! This is quite difficult to overcome, since the fans themselves were responsible for “freezing the rating”. What do we mean by the latter? They are simple mathematics. Turns out Fullmetal Alchemist’s rating is based on over 1.85 million ratings. (many of them from clone accounts that just add it to their list and put 10 on it). However, so many ratings mean that more and more new accounts are needed to raise the score by even one hundredth.
And what do these “new accounts” look like? They are simply accounts of recent creation and no activity, which add both series and give one point to Kaguya-sama: Love is War and ten points to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. How long will it stay in first place? Certainly having kept it for more than a weekend is already an achievement in itself, but perhaps the time has come for MyAnimeList take action on the matter of this type of machinations and start implementing IP bans or another type of measure, if you are looking to maintain the little “fidelity” that you still have left.
