As part of Bowie 75, the official campaign celebrating the birth of David Bowie, Adobe has introduced a new set of digital tools in Creative Cloud inspired by the artist, encouraging everyone to freely explore their own identity. The digital tools of the ‘Adobe x Bowie’ collaboration are now available in Photoshop, Illustrator, Fresco, Substance and Adobe Express. “We truly believe that creativity is for everyone, and who embodies this spirit better than David Bowie? A true icon who fervently believed that art is inherent in everyone”, explains Simon Morris, Senior Director of Marketing at Adobe:

Drawing inspiration from its unforgettable, colorful and eye-catching characters, Adobe uses these tools to invite people to explore their own forms of self-expression: A set of makeup brushes named after some of their biggest hits, such as “ Ashes”, “Changes”, “Major Tom” and “Queen Bish”. The Adobe Pattern Swatch, which allows creatives to test fabrics and patterns from Bowie’s most famous suits to turn them into something totally new. Bold colored backgrounds and 3D props in Substance, inspired by David’s posters and album covers. A sticker pack inspired by iconic Bowie graphics like Aladdin Sane’s famous lightning bolt and Ziggy Stardust’s astral sphere.

Adobe Releases Exclusive Collection of David Bowie-Inspired Tools

This is Adobe’s latest offering in an initiative that seeks to bring to life historic artist tools that have changed the world and put them in the hands of contemporary creators. Thus, the first time it was carried out was with the digital recreation of Edward Munch’s brushes, followed by the Lost Alphabets of the Bauhaus Dessau and, finally, in 2020, with the launch of a wide collection of brushes inspired by the legendary 1980s New York artist Keith Haring.

Bowie’s digital tools are now available for free, and we encourage fans to try them out in Photoshop, create their own characters here, and share their designs with #AdobexBowie. These tools include more than 150 graphics, color swatches, vectors, patterns, and stickers, created by Tina Touli, Kae Neskovic, Tabea Mahern, and Thomas Hedger. They can be used in Creative Cloud apps including: Photoshop, Photoshop for iPad, Illustrator, Illustrator for iPad, Fresco, Adobe Express, and Substance. Plus, 18 digital brushes created by Kyle T. Webster can be used in Photoshop, Photoshop for iPad, and Fresco.
