The creator of the Cobra Kai series explains that the Karate Kid movies are always present when preparing the new stories.
In September we will be able to see the long-awaited fifth season of cobra kai that must solve all the plots left open by the fourth, which was more interesting than ever. The series will try to continue surprising us while paying homage to the original films of karate Kid. Something that the co-creator of the series knows very well, Hayden Schlossberg, which explains it like this: «It’s fun, you expand the universe. You have new characters and with new characters, new perspective, new backgrounds, and that gives it a modern element. But we start with: Hey, remember the roots. The Bonsai tree grows and you can explore different kinds of characters in a TV series that you wouldn’t explore in a movie. But the roots are the bullying, the mentoring, it’s overcoming things, it’s dealing with the past. It’s that gut feeling of feeling weak and then someone gives you something. This program is karate, but in life there can be a million different things that change you and give you confidence. And so every season, at the end of every Cobra Kai season, something crazy happens.” “Getting to the soul of the Valley depends on who wins this nunchuck fight. But deep down is what made me fall in love with The Karate Kid, why it is a classic. Different cultures meet, people you wouldn’t expect to connect, connect. Every year we say: Okay, let’s forget everything for a second and go back to The Karate Kid. Why do we love this? We watch the movie again. And that’s why I think it worked on a global level, because they are universal stories. So we tried to focus on that, while taking advantage of the different characters, genres, environments and playing things to make it feel like The Karate Kid but it’s something totally different.” Hayden Schlossberg concluded. The season cobra kai will be released on September 9, 2022 in Netflix.
